Hump Day Submission Carousel 7

#7: 3/10/21

It's Wednesday, so you know what that means! HUMP DAY SUBMISSIONS! Because it's easy to fall off the submission train during the week I'm presenting you with 3 cool and very different small journals currently open for submissions to save you research time! Pick one of the three journals presented and read some of the pieces in your genre. If you're not digging them, check the next journal. Don't agonize over it, if you're not enjoying the writing or you don't feel your writing would fit in there move along to the next journal. If none of them seem to fit... maybe next week?

Journal 1Ghost City Review. This (mostly) monthly online journal out of Syracuse, NY, reads no fee submissions in all genres via email. Check out their interview with Entropy Mag from 2017 here. But mainly, as always read the newest issue to get a feel for their aesthetic which is eclectic but (in my experience) it leans a bit on the interesting/innovative side over the accessible side.

"Ghost City Review welcomes submissions of poems, short stories, flash fiction, personal essays, adventure narratives, journal entries, short plays, monologues, translations, photographs, oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, dioramas…. pretty much anything you can think of. We want to see it all. Show us what you’ve created."

Journal 2new sinews. If you like your lit mags far, far from the beaten path, where all the coolest bugs and wildlife and foliage really is, check out new sinews. Not your average fare, but for those adventurous readers there are some very intriguing specimen. Check out their newest issue to see what I mean.

They want "poems & fiction (very much open to speculative/fantasy) or even aggressively creative nonfiction... looking for diverse voices & dynamic styles... generally: striving to make unexpected juxtapositions... especially: seeking writing that is historically keen"
Journal 3Red Eft Review. The Red Eft Review brands itself as being "dedicated to accessible poetry". A 'broadsheet style' publication, meaning they publish one poem at a time instead of issue, not quite every day but almost. They read submissions all year via email.

They notably DO NOT accept simultaneous submissions, they do say on their guidelines page that they may take up to two weeks to respond, however in my experience they are much faster, so while you may think it's a hassle, play by their rules. No Simultaneous Submissions. And they'll respond very quickly then you can send your work out elsewhere.

Get your writing out there! You got this! I know it's mid-week, but spending just a little bit of time with reading well-crafted creative writing in the middle of the week it can keep your creativity a little fresher when the weekend comes around. I think, at least.

Also a gentle reminder that Sparked is reading submissions of writing from Notebooking Daily prompts, so send them work now! And if you thought this post was helpful, consider shooting me a buck or two for my own future submissions or to help pay writers for Sparked (which comes out of my pocket). No pressure though. I'm just trying to get better with the begging for pennies, submission fees in 2020 are pretty monumental and 2021 is shaping up to be just as bad!
